SMF Grandby re-cap

Last Friday, November 6th, was the Grand Final of the SMF Tour, a classic pre-season event in Quebec. The last event of this series presented by Coors Light was sponsored by 32 and etnies in collaboration with Ultimate Boardshop. Ghislain Monpetit (Dragon and 32 Boots) taking 1st place in the night’s event, finishing 2nd overall in the SMF 2009 series. Big Up Kid! Canadian Concrete 2009 at Lafarge skate park in Coquitlam was a huge success. This competition catered to rides of all ages and abilities and brought the bmx community together for a sick day full of dope tricks. The proof was over 60 people turning up to enter and ride, as well as tricks getting done in this park that have never been done, huge transfers, massive fly-outs to the grass field over the ridiculous height fence, as well as the young riders throwing down bigger than they should be able to. 3 Ride, TSG, etnies, LRG, Haro, Premium and Dragon all helped out the cause. Weekend at Birnie's

It started with OMB (David Birnie) seeing all these lame events for kids that cost money for really...nothing. So, with the help of the Seymour park crew and friends in the industry (32, etnies, Dragon, Dinosaurswilldie, Union, Airblaster, LRG, Da Kine, Capita), we came up with a free event with an overkill of product and no charge for the kids to enter. Kind of a thank you to the kids that are in the know. Three years and four events later, we are at the Weekend at Birnies 2-day parks event. We did day one at the lodge chair park. About 70 kids hung around and rode and were rewarded for trying tricks and just having fun. Fratboy BBQ'd up hot dogs and the sun was out all day. Day two was at the mystery chair lower jib park - the park was perfect for easy hikes and lots of fun things to hit. We even had reps hiking all day long. Lots of kids returned as did the sun and a lot of fun was had. Thanks to everyone that helped me out it's not like I do this by myself. See you next year for the return of Smitty and Hoppy at the Sanford Halfpipe.

Robbie Maddison breaks world motorcycle record!

Australian native Robbie Maddison broke the world motorcycle jumping record on New Years Ever, flying 322 feet and 7 1/2 inches at the Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada. Robbie’s accomplishment has received tons of coverage featuring him wearing the Dragon MDX/Mike Giant goggles during his record jump.This now ups his world record count to three, including longest jump on a 125cc (221 feet) and longest jump with a trick (246feet).
